The Root of it All
Picture & Words: Donna Jones
The leaves flutter in the breeze,
Hanging on, but oh so free.
The branches sway gently,
Strong arms of support for the tree.
The trunk is sturdy and large,
Lifting the leaves far above the ground.
But it’s the roots that we do not see,
That send the nutrition and water around.
In childhood we laugh, run and play,
We’re cared for and oh so free.
Our family is like the branches,
Supporting a group called the family tree.
The church is like the sturdy trunk,
With praise, worship and truth to ground.
But it’s Jesus, the root, Who is the truth,
And He brings the living water around.
For the tree, the roots are the unnoticed hero.
Without their support it would topple and fall.
The roots keep growing faithfully, getting
Bigger, longer, stronger as the tree gets tall.
Sadly, Jesus is often the unnoticed hero too,
Without His support we wouldn’t have life at all.
But He’s faithful and sends more blessings,
Do you hear something? It’s His call!
