I have attempted to prove a young earth directly from the Genesis text. Words and phrases have meaning, and they must be studied carefully if we are to understand the intent of the author. This study has shown that the words and phrases found within the first two chapters of Genesis, when understood and applied correctly, teach a young earth. The creation story is not presented as a mere theory, but a statement of fact.To dismiss the Genesis story as mythical or allegorical does violence to the veracity of God’s Word. Might not the flood account of Noah’s ark be similarly interpreted? What about other stories found in God’s Word? This would set a dangerous precedent!
We could end here, but may I add someproverbial“icing on the cake”? Let’s look at one more text, this time from the Book of Exodus where we will read from the 4th Commandment.
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore, the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”Exodus 20: 8-11.
Here we have our slam dunk scripture for corroboration. The commandment which deals with creation;the commandment which points to God as Creator; the commandment which refers to a six-day creation week– inclusive of“heaven and earth,” is none other than the 4th commandment. It’s allthere folks! But notice in particular the express statement: “for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth.”When was heaven and earth created? Answer: “in six days”! I, for one, accept this statement of fact by faith. As the children’s song goes: “God said it, and I believe it, and that’s good enough for me.”
Satan hates God so much he is literally hell bent on destroying the memorial of God, includingHis glory, His power, and His authority. This is why a literal interpretation of Genesis is paramountto establish Christian doctrine. It’s no mystery why the seventh-day Sabbath is the commandment most controverted within Christianity itself! The fact is, the seventh-day Sabbath finds its strength in the Genesis account. There’s no need to compromise our faith, to bend the knee to science falsely so called. There’s no need to feel embarrassed for being a literalist and absolutist. All that’s required is a firm, “thus saith the Lord.”As it is written, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Rom. 10: 17.
