“And God called the firmament heaven”

            This “heaven” in verse 8 is not to be confused with “the heaven” found in verses 1 and 14.  Both are terms to describe an expanse or canopy: the former refers to the great expanse of outer space, while the latter refers to the expanse between the clouds and the earth – the atmospheric heaven, or sky.
