The union of believers with their God,
Is going to happen one day soon.
Invitations to the marriage are proclaimed—
Morning, night and noon.
Many disregard it with no desire to honor
The King who bids them come.
Why? There is business to tend to, parties to attend
Excuses are the sum.
Before the King’s marriage takes place however,
Rewards are being determined.
What I am cannot recommend me to the King,
My heart must be mended.
This fix is offered by the King and
It is the righteousness of Christ within.
Tragically some want a garment of their own making,
By works try to cover sin.
Only clothed in Christ’s wedding garment
Can we stand in God’s presence.
He alone can cover our shame and nakedness
Bringing back our innocence.
When we submit to Christ, we have His mind in us and,
Suddenly, we’re ready!
It is Christ who puts the garment on us;
It is He who keeps us true and steady.
In today’s vernacular, we would say,
“This wedding garment is a must have!”
Christ invites us to buy from Him gold,
White raiment and precious eye salve.
I don’t know about you, but I’d rather
Let Christ dress me than do it myself.
Think I’ll just put old sinful me away permanently
On a dusty old closet shelf.
I’ll never go back to retrieve
What Christ has taken away and replaced.
He put my sins in the depths of the sea!
Praise God! They’re erased!
Now I stand in the purity of His beautiful,
Gracious and loving character.
I’m dressed and ready for the wedding feast!
Christ’s life, not mine, is what’s seen by the Father.
